WORLDWIDE ORPHANS FOUNDATION RAISES OVER $1.2 MILLION MARY FISHER IS HONORED AND CHILDREN FROM ETHIOPIA PERFORM HUGH JACKMAN & ANGELINA JOLIE PROVIDE VIDEO MESSAGES

New York, NY, October 19, 2006 ñ It was standing-room only at Cipriani Wall Street the night of October 16th as Worldwide Orphans Foundation (WWO) hosted more than 850 donors and guests at its Second Annual Benefit Gala. WWO raised over $1.2 million, according to Dr. Jane Aronson, founder and executive medical director.

WWO serves orphaned children worldwide through the direct delivery of humanitarian programs designed to solve specific medical, developmental, emotional and psycho-social needs.

One of the highlights of the night featured a poignant, emotionally-charged tribute to the work of WWO when five children from the AHOPE orphanage in Ethiopia stepped on stage to sing This Little Light of Mine. The children, orphaned by AIDS and HIV-positive, began receiving WWO-sponsored antiretroviral medicines in September 2005, and are now healthy, optimistic children receiving education and sports programs as well as medical care.

In honor of the children, a generous donation of $250,000 (over a two-year period) from the Edward and Leslye Phillips Family Founda-tion is specified for the development of a new school project in Ethiopia.

WWO honored Mary Fisher with its second annual Orphan Ranger Award. Ms. Fisher UNAIDS Special Representative, artist, author and speaker, travels the world advocating for those who share her HIV-positive status. Ms. Fisher delivered an impassioned speech that resonated deeply with her hushed audience. Calling for an end to the phenomenon of orphaned children, Ms. Fisher said we are all to blame and can no longer turn our backs on the very children we have caused to be orphans due to war, poverty and disease.

"For more than 15 years, Mary Fisher has been a powerful voice in the global AIDS response. Mary's tireless work as an artist and advocate including most recently as a Special Representative for UNAIDS, has brought hope and healing to millions living with and affected by HIV worldwide,î said Dr. Peter Piot, UN Undersecretary General and executive director of UNAIDS. ìMary is a dear friend, a wonderful leader, and no one could be more deserving as WWO's 2006 Honoree."

Whoopi Goldberg, the prolific actress and comedienne, and Katie Couric, anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, shared emcee duties and provided the audience with a rich potion of humor and gravity on behalf of the children WWO serves.

Deborra-Lee Furness Jackman, actress, stood in for her husband, Hugh Jackman, Tony-Award winning actor (The Boy from Oz) and star of the hit movie, X-Men: The Last Stand. Mr. Jackman, who was scheduled to emcee the evening with his wife, was called to LA for a premiere and appeared via video with his personal apology and an inspiring message.

Angelina Jolie also provided a video message with her daughter, Zahara, born in Ethiopia and adopted by Ms. Jolie in 2005, in her arms. Ms. Jolie said she was at the Gala in spirit and pledged her continued support of WWOís work. Ms. Jolie was WWOís Special Guest at its first Gala in 2005.

Mary-Louise Parker, Tony-Award winner (Proof) and star of TVís Weeds and West Wing, was WWOís Special Guest, and provided a moving introduction of WWOís Dr. Aronson.

Liya Kebede, World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health, WWOís Special Guest, introduced a short documentary film that highlighted some of WWOís work over the past year. The film was narrated by Andre Braugher, star of TVís Homicide.

Entertainment was directed by Kathleen Marshall, Tony-Award winning director and choreographer (The Pajama Game, Wonderful Town), with Peter Hanson, stage manager, and included performances by Donna Murphy, Tony-Award winning actress (The King and I and Passion); Melissa Errico actress and singer; Kristin Chenoweth, Tony-Award winning actress (Charlie Brown) and featured actress on West Wing; Peter Jay Fernandez, the blues singer, accompanied by Michael Parrish, pianist; and five children from AHOPE orphanage in Ethiopia.

WWOís 2006 Honorary Gala Committee was chaired by James Haven. Committee members included Andre Braugher, Ann Hampton Callaway, Christine Ebersole, Cindy Hsu, Liya Kebede, Kathleen Marshall, Donna Murphy, Mary-Louise Parker, Alexandra Postman, Steve Schirripa, and Bill Weir.

The mission of Worldwide Orphans Foundation is to identify the immediate and long-term medical, developmental, social and emotional needs of children living in orphanages and to provide direct services to improve their quality of life. Founded in 1997 by renowned adoption medicine specialist, Dr. Jane Aronson, WWO has established humanitarian programs in Ethiopia, Viet Nam, Bulgaria, Serbia/Montenegro, Azerbaijan, and China.
