LKF and Worldwide Orphans Foundation
Worldwide Orphans Foundation raised over $1.2 million at its Second Annual Benefit Gala at Cipriani’s, according to its founder and executive medical director Dr. Jane Aronson. WWO serves orphaned children worldwide through the direct delivery of humanitarian programs designed to solve specific medical, developmental, emotional and psycho-social needs.
Participants included Angelina Jolie, Whoopi Goldberg, Mary-Louise Parker, and WHO Goodwill Ambassador Liya Kebede. The event was emceed by Deborah Lee Furness Jackman.
One of the highlights of the night featured a poignant, emotionally-charged tribute to the work of WWO when five children from the AHOPE orphanage in Ethiopia stepped on stage to sing This Little Light of Mine. The children, orphaned by AIDS and HIV-positive, began receiving WWO-sponsored antiretroviral medicines in September 2005, and are now healthy, optimistic children receiving education and sports programs as well as medical care.
